A male artiste performing a Female character in the world famous dance-drama called as “Kathakali“. This classical art form originated and still exists in the Indian state of Kerala.

There are 101 classical stories from the Indian epic which are portrayed through “Kathakali” . This particular image is from a story of Hindu Lord Krsna in his youth.

Kathakali is a combination of Nritham, Nrithyam, Natyam, Geetham and Vadyam (Dance, enactment, expression, Vocal music, instrumental music)

The female character is expressing out one of the ‘Navarasa’ (Nine Expressions).

This particular art form is more famous for its elaborate costumes, and heavy make-up than the components of mudras (hand gestures),  Navarasas and bodily enactment.
