For the state of Tamil nadu, the Monsoon is an elusive dream. The Western Ghats block out all the rich dense rain carrying clouds from the south-west Monsoon.

Result a dry, parched land, if the Ghats were not there, we could have expected a more uniform tropical experience similar to that of Sri Lanka. However, there are few East flowing rivers which keep Tamilnadu from being a desert including the might Cauvery [Check Hogenakkal Falls }. Also, dams, canals in the last century has helped irrigate the land.

This photograph comes from a search for a panther. However, the panther got the better of us by camouflaging in the woods. We could see the clouds being halted by the Western ghats. Taken from the Tamil nadu side of Western Ghats. We can see a small puddle soon drying up among shrubs and thorny forest that lead to the hills.
