Vazhachal falls is not really a waterfall, like its more famous sister falls Athirapally Falls, but a rushing fast paced watercourse.
Normally the water levels are low, but in monsoon it peaks as in this image and completely covers the river bed. The river and its surroundings in the form of riparian forests protect a large amount of flora and fauna.
The region is called
1) “Important Bird Area”,
2)”India’s best elephant conservation effort”
Environmental scene: There is a strong society which prevents environmental damage by tourists, an organisation which opposes a hydro power project [Chalakudy Puzha Samrakshana Samiti].
Tourist scene: There is a single counter near the entry for all tickets run by the state.
Now that is a practice, the neighboring states of Karnataka and Tamilnadu can emulate [Hogenakkal Falls]
This is such an amazing photo….sad I never went to visit Hogenakkal….certainly missed a lot when I was in Bangalore….
Sorry, this is not Hogenakkal, but Vazhachal waterfalls in Kerala.
